Love the simple things

The weather outside doesn’t exactly look like beach weather today. So I thought I would share a beach themed card, and we can pretend that we are there!

I created my background with watercolours, and I  also used them to colour my little girl too.

To create the sand, I used acrylic paints in raw umber and white and mixed them together with some coarse marble dust.

Artist Trading Coins

I have been creating a lot of artist trading coins recently, they can be quite addictive! Artist trading coins are 2.5 “ circles, which are decorated in any way imaginable. They can be made from mdf, chipboard or thick card. I have been using the mdf ones, but I have recently ordered some blank chipboard at coins for a change. You write your usual artist details on the back as you would for the more traditional artist trading cards. You then of course swap them with other  artists.

I thought I would share some of my coins and ideas.

I edged the coins above with pearls.

I heat embossed these Classic Pooh stamps. These stamps were some of the very first stamps I owned.

I edged them with some bead gel.

I heat embossed these flowers, and added little pearls to them, and edged them  in more white pearls.

I created the background for these coins by making a lace design on my gelli plate, and laying the coins down onto it.

I covered these coins with some vintage pages from an Alice In Wonderland book.

Heat embossing various stamps to create a little scene.

Back to Classic Pooh to conclude.Thank you for visiitng xx

Morty on the beach

I hope it is not pouring where you are today, it certainly is here! June already and no sunshine yet!

Today I would like to introduce you to Morty, a gorgeous new stamp by my friend Tracey Easson. She has dedicated her new range of stamps to the memory of her beloved father.

I created  the background with watercolours and stamped Morty onto card before water colouring and fussy cutting him. He wanted to have fun on the beach and build a sandcastle, so I drew him a bucket and spade. After drawing a sand castle I added some texture paste to give it a grainy look, and painted it in a sandy colour.

The seagulls, starfish, and shells are from Crafty Individuals, and also a Stamp Set which I think was made by My Favourite Things.

Thank you for visiting me today.

Alice In Wonderland Book

Hello, and thank you for stopping by. Today I am happy to be escaping to Wonderland.

“Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.”

 Lewis Carroll

I used a papier-mâché  book from Hobbycraft, on reflection I wish I had purchased a better quality one as this one had lumps and bumps, and was not very sturdy. I covered it with beautiful Alice rice papers and paint. I also added a white rabbit as he wanted to be followed into the book.

I had never used moulds before, but when Stamperia released their new Alice range and it included moulds I of course had to get them! I used clay many years ago, but it was clay which had to be baked in the oven, and I made things freehand. So air drying clay and moulds were all new to me.After many attempts I decided to use one of the white rabbits which did not turn out too badly, some of them were dreadful, and looked a bit frightening ! I used acrylics to paint him.

To cover the inside of the bookI used  pages from a vintage Alice book and stamped over them with playing card suits and other whatnots from my large collection of Alice Stamps.
I fussy cut the beautiful scenes  from the Stamperia papers and folded them and assembled it into the book so they would pop out when opened. I worked it all out on copy paper first :  )
I had fun adding lots of embellishments, hanging some down from the top of the book etc.

Thank you for popping into Wonderland today, and I hope you enjoyed your visit xx

Wish Upon A Star

Hello how is your winter going ! Well it feels like winter here! Let’s hope the warmer spring weather arrives soon.

I was  thinking of warm summer evenings when I created this small canvas. I used a lovely new stamp set from Hero Arts called “Wish I Might” . I actually like the way this canvas came out, which is a very rare event, as I don’t like a lot of the things I make.

I used Brushos to create my starry sky and the grassy ground. After stamping the doggie with black versafine , I fussy cut him , of course being very careful not to nick him! A trimmed piece of little bark made a nice seat for his swing, and I  tied it up to the tree branch with thin string. I finished by embossing stars,  and the sentiment to the sky and adding  pressed flowers to the garden. I have a lot of pressed flowers, the Forget-Me- Nots are finally coming up in the garden so I will be  collecting and pressing them soon.

I also crumbled up some dried petals and adhered them to the bottom of my canvas  along with a few little stars to add some extra magic

I hope you like this little magical canvas, and let’s hope that the  sun and magic will arrive with us all soon.

Thank you so very much for paying me a visit. Take care xx

I would like to add my Wish Upon A Star canvas to the following challenges.

Alice and Mad Hatter Canvas

Hello, I am back in Wonderland today, probably the best place to be!  Today I am sharing a mixed media canvas featuring Alice and the Mad Hatter.I used Paperbabe templates for the bow, hat and clothes, and drew the facial  features. Of course I  used my favourite watercolours on everything!

This is one of my most favourite quotes by Lewis Carrol “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality” So I was thrilled to see it as a stamp at Lost Coast Designs.

I used several gorgeous Alice collections on this canvas, Bo Bunny and Echo Park. Have you seen the new Alice collection by Stamperia, it is stunning!

Thank you for visiting today, hope to see you again soon. If you have time, please leave a comment so Alice and Mad Hatter know you were here!

An Autumn Collection

How exciting the lovely Sally Jarvis of Making Cards magazine has included this blog in her “Ones To Watch” thank you so much! If this is your first time here a very warm welcome xx

Unfortunately I have not been as active on my blog as usual due to problems with my arm. I am seeing a specialist at the end of November so hoepfully we can find some treatment.

I have created a few Autumn whatnots which are below. If you would like to be updated when I add something new to this blog please click on the become a follower on the left.

I used the gorgeous Bo Bunny Beautifully Brisk Collection which I was recently fortunate to have won. I used a box canvas and coloured it with  watercoloirs and Brushos. I also had fun using items from nature.

An Autumn Card using Aquamarkers to create the background.

A snuggled up Fox is happily sleeping on this card.

As I don’t have many craft projects at the moment, I thought I would share some recent photos. My friend is a trustee and he asked me to accompany him to an opening event, Michael Parkinson was cutting the ribbon, there were politicians and other “famous”  faces there. I have to admit I did not recognise them all, but everyone was very friendly and I had some interesting conversations. My friend was on the tv news luckily I wheeled away into a quiet corner!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope to see you again soon xx

Snow White

Hello, Snow White is visiting the Indigoblu Blogtoday, I hope you will pay her a visit. She would love to see you!

It now seems that the splint for my arm was not the right treatment! The ultrasound has found three different and what the dr called very complicated problems. I need to see a specialist, and of course the waiting lists are several months long! I am managing to craft just a little at a time, thank goodness I can, as otherwise I would go bonkers!

Some good news a magazine contacted me and they think my “Actually I Can” canvas has a very positive message and they want to feature it in their magazine next month. So glad they liked it,  not everyone did!

Men’s Birthday Card

Oh dear what has happened to the lovely sunny weather we were enjoying! Blustery and cold here.

Men’s cards are always difficult, so I had to put my thinking cap on for my fathers upcoming birthday card. I was recently given a packet of Tim Holtz’s paper dolls. I don’t usually make a lot of vintage type items, but these looked very interesting, and I could conjure up whole life stories to go with them!

I selected one of a young boy, and his dog as he looks like a hard worker. My father grew up during the war, and he had to leave school at just 14 years old to do much needed work on a farm. After the war he went onto agricultural college. He has always worked hard, and has had many interesting and rewarding  jobs  -  a local councillor, a Justice of the Peace/Magistrate. Also like myself, and all of my family he has selflessly helped others, and has been committed to endless voluntary, and charity work.

My father will be 88 years old on his next birthday. To remind him of his younger days doing farm work I decided to add some chickens from a Hobbyart stamp set, to go with my chosen paper doll. I coloured and fussy cut the chickens and eggs. I used my aquamarker pens to create a simple background. I added twigs and various bits from my ever bulging nature box. I finished of course by adding a large 88 at the top

Thank you for visiting today.I would like to enter this special card into the following challenges.

By The Sea

I love the sea, although sadly I do not see it very often, and then I only see it from a distance as unfortunately beaches are not wheelchair accessible, but at least I can see it for which I am very  grateful.
With the sea in mind I created this 7x7  card. The background is from the gelli plate. I inked up the gelli plate and then placed the netting from some tangerines over the top, and it left this nice netty pattern. I cut some pieces of bark for the seagull to stand on, I must admit I don’t like seagulls as one of them swooped behind me last year and snatched my sandwich right out of my hands!

I also added some art stones and few tiny shells, some stamped and some real.To finish off I wound some twine around the edge of the circle.

The stamps I used  are by Crafty Secrets.

Thank you for visiting today, have a lovely day. Hugs xx

Easter Scene Frame

Hello dear crafting friends, how are you today? The daffodils are out so maybe spring weather may arrive soon!

With Spring in mind I made this Spring Scene.I used a deep wooden frame, and created a Watercolour background. I then used a  wonderful spring stamp set which came free with Crafts Beautiful magazine. I coloured and fussy cut the stamps and added them to the front part  of the frame and added various dried flowers, and twigs. I adhered the butterfly stamps onto some thin wire so they could fly freely in the scene
Thank you for visiting and I hope you are having time to have crafty fun.

How I created it.
I used a 4 inch deep frame and made a Watercolour background and stamped birds and branches onto the top and sides. I stamped and fussy cut the lovely  Walkies characters and coloured them.I also  added some flowersoft for the girls fluffy collar and for the Pom Pom on the hat. I also added some glossy accents onto the boots. I used some thin twine for the dogs lead. I added texture paste into the base and embedded the girl and various twigs, dried flowers and art stones. The art stones are wonderful, but oh my,goodness they do get absolutely everywhere!

A Winters Meadow

Hello , I am in full Christmas making mode! I decided to make keepsake plaques for my family this year, and this one is for my sister. She takes several holidays in the Lake District each year. When I saw this charming Hobby Art stamp at the Alexandra Palace in September I thought it would make a perfect Christmas card for her.

I watercoloured the image and flicked my brush with white paint to create the snow.I love to use elements from nature so I chose a gorgeous piece of birch bark to mount it on and then added a pine cone, curly moss and a gorgeous pink berry.

How are your Christmas /Winter crafts going?

Thank you so much for visiting me today.
